Phishing campaigns on social networks: target users with rights to manage Facebook pages

The FBI warns that phishing campaigns targeting users with rights to manage Facebook pages have returned to the social network.

This is a preferred method of attackers in spreading phishing pages, that of creating misleading posts on newly created social media pages. They are usually specifically designed to be displayed to the potential victim as a legitimate notification. Attackers do this by adding a page tag to the post text.

"The main purpose is to scare the user that he will lose access to the account if he does not validate the access data after accessing a link in the post, which will redirect to a phishing page. Without a careful analysis of the origin of the message and the details in the notification, such campaigns can be convincing ", say the specialists.
